Kanturk progressed to the quarter finals of the Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship by virtue of a four point victory over Charleville at Kilbrin on Sunday last.

Kanturk opened brightly, racing into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after eight minutes.

Charleville had the scores level four minutes later before building up a three point lead midway through the half.

A goal from a long range shot by Lorcain McLoughlin, followed by a Kanturk point, gave Kanturk a 1-8 to 0-10 lead after 18 minutes. By the interval, Kanturk held a two point advantage on a 1-12 to 0-13 scoreline.

The second half saw the sides swap scores on numerous occasions but when Kanturk keeper Nash brought off a brilliant save, which was followed by two quick points for our team, it gave us a 1-19 to 0-18 lead entering the closing ten minutes.

Try as they might, Charleville couldn’t get the scores to peg Kanturk back and we held out for a 1-22 to 0-21 victory.

Charleville now go on to play Courcey Rovers in round three with the winners meeting Kanturk in the quarter-final and Ballinhassig awaiting the outcome of these games in the semi-finals.
