TIMMY LYNCH Hurlers progress to county quarter finals
Kanturk progressed to the quarter finals of the Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship by virtue of a four point victory over Charleville at Kilbrin on Sunday last.
Kanturk opened brightly, racing into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after eight minutes.
Charleville had the scores level four minutes later before building up a three point lead midway through the half.
A goal from a long range shot by Lorcain McLoughlin, followed by a Kanturk point, gave Kanturk a 1-8 to 0-10 lead after 18 minutes. By the interval, Kanturk held a two point advantage on a 1-12 to 0-13 scoreline.
The second half saw the sides swap scores on numerous occasions but when Kanturk keeper Nash brought off a brilliant save, which was followed by two quick points for our team, it gave us a 1-19 to 0-18 lead entering the closing ten minutes.
Try as they might, Charleville couldn’t get the scores to peg Kanturk back and we held out for a 1-22 to 0-21 victory.
Charleville now go on to play Courcey Rovers in round three with the winners meeting Kanturk in the quarter-final and Ballinhassig awaiting the outcome of these games in the semi-finals.
U15s lOSE OUT:
Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) lost out in the final of the Rebel Og Cork U15’A’FC county final played at Macroom on Wednesday last 16th August.
The first 60 minutes was a close affair and Kanturk had the chances to win in normal time but Bandon showed their powers in extra time, and we lost out on a 2-06 to 3-16 score line.
Duhallow JFC Final:
Kanturk GAA look forward to hosting the Duhallow JFC final on Sunday next 27th August at 2pm. The game brings Knocknagree and Boherbue into opposition as they vie for outright Duhallow championship honours.
