Traffic calming and village enhancements for Dromina
COUNCILLOR Bernard Moynihan has informed the members of Dromina Community Council that Cork County Council propose to carry out substantial traffic calming measures and village enhancement works in the village and have allocated €90,000 for the completion of the work.
Cllr. Moynihan said that the traffic calming measures will help to reduce vehicular speeds through the village and improve road safety for all road users, particularly pedestrians. The proposed works include the provision of traffic islands, build-outs, uncontrolled pedestrian crossings, raised tables and improved lining and signage on the R578 at Dromina.
There are also proposals for enhancement works in the village which will be funded under the Clár Scheme and will include parking and raised tables to be surfaced in colour chip asphalt, the planting of trees at suitable locations to demarcate the school zone and crossings to soften the hard landscape and establish thresholds.
The width of the existing entrance to Marian Terrace estate will be reduced and a new footpath area will be provided at the western side of the entrance and the footpath area in front of the school will be renewed.
Additional build-outs will be included at the Charleville approach to the village and sunken, flush concrete kerbing to demarcate parking set-down areas.
The measures are welcome news for the village as this is a particularly busy road carrying lots of traffic and the safety of pedestrians, children going to the local national school, and the vehicular traffic will be greatly enhanced.
