Chamber playing a central role in Charleville
CHARLEVILLE Chamber continues to play an active role in the life of the town and the members are constantly looking for opportunities to attract new business to the town.
To this end they have organised a breakfast meeting for Friday, October 20 next at the Charleville Park Hotel at 7.30am, when a number of speakers, led by Michael Creed the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, will be in attendance.
The main theme of the morning discussion will be the M20 corridor and the economic and social benefits that will accrue from the new motorway, should it be put in place by the government. Other speakers at the breakfast morning will be David Fitzsimons of Retail Excellence Ireland and William H. Batt, economist from the Irish office of Indecon International Economic Consultants.
The President of Charleville Chamber, P. J. McCarthy, has also indicated that the new owners of the town centre retail complex just off Main Street will also make a presentation outlining their plans for the operation of the centre into the future.
The Chamber also had a mentoring role to the TY students of Charleville CBS Secondary School who were placed third in the world in the final of the Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) for Young Social Innovators, which was held earlier this month in Odessa in the Ukraine.
The Charleville students had already won the Make our World Greener Challenge and the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalists Award, which is Ireland’s biggest all-island celebration of Youth ECO Action, with their Ditch Your Carbon Cup project.
The aim of their project was to reduce carbon (C02) emissions locally and nationally by encouraging people to bring their own reusable cups when going for a take-away coffee/tea from their local service station or beverage outlet. Mr. McCarthy congratulated the young students on their initiative and on their success against the students from schools across the world.
It is also expected that the town’s long-awaited security cameras will be operative in the town’s Main Street within the foreseeable future. These have been held up due to circumstances completely outside of the control of the Chamber.
