Robert Emmets fail gallantly in bid to claim title

ROBERT Emmets failed –but failed gallantly – to bring the County Under-21 B football title back to Duhallow for the first time when they lost by 1-11 to 3-11 against an outstandin­g Kilshannig side at Páirc Uí Rinn last Friday night.

The Robert Emmets line out was: Josh O’Keeffe. Jason Sheehan, Jamie Hayes, Daniel Norton, Patrick Browne, Aidan Browne, Eoin O’Connell, Michael Cottrell, Cathal Browne, Aaron O’Callaghan, Conor O’Keeffe, Capt, (1-8) Cian Crowley, Jack Guiney (0-1), Ryan O’Keeffe (0-1), Jack Murphy (0-1).

Subs: Sean Mcsweeney for O’Connell, Michael Mcsweeney for O’Callaghan, Stephen Jones, Cathal Field and Patrick Buckley.

While five of this side will be over age next year, the nucleas of a fine side is there for the coming year. Nineteen players were used in this year’s championsh­ip. Conor O’Keeffe who captained the side scored 3-36 (45 pts) in the six-game campaign.

Newmarket will face Macroom in the quarter final of the County Premier Intermedia­te Football Championsh­ip on Friday, Septembet 1, at a time and venue to be confirmed.

WELL done to our Junior B hurlers on a 1-11/1-9 victory over Banteer last Sunday in the semi-final of the Duhallow Junior B Hurling Championsh­ip. This qualifies them for their first final in this grade since its establishm­ent in 1984. Newmarket won a novice hurling championsh­ip in 1962.

Meanwhile, Newmarket will face Macroom in the County Premier Intermedia­te Football Championsh­ip quarter-final at Millstreet on Saturday week, September 2, at 5pm.

A coach to from North Cork to Knock on Sunday 3rd September will leave Millstreet at 7:45am, Banteer 7:55, Kanturk 8:05, The Arches Mallow 8:30 and can be picked up along the route. Contact Jerry on 087 2833696.

Boherbue Comprehens­ive School will re-open for First Year students ONLY from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday, 29th August.

Second Year, Third Year and Leaving Cert. students ONLY are required to attend on Wednesday, 30th August.

First Year, Transition Year and Fourth Year students ONLY are required to attend on Thursday, 31st August.

All classes will attend on Friday, 1st September.

Duhallow Vintage Club offers a big thank you to all who attended the Joe O’Connor Memorial Run last Sunday and made it a major success. And there is a special word of thanks to Micheal and Peg Hourigan for providing their premises free of charge at the start of the run.

Duhallow Vintage Club’s next outing will be a vintage car charity run in Brosna on Sunday 27th August to raise funds for the Brosna Community Playground.
