Dromtariffe and Kilshannig salute football triumphs
COUNTY final triumphs for Dromtariffe and Kilshannig sparked celebrations after the North Cork clubs landed silverware at Pairc Uí Rinn last weekend.
Jubilant fans saluted success for the traditional football strongholds that resulted in a carnival atmosphere. Dromtariffe endured a nailbiting finish to better Avondhu side St. Kevin’s in the Co. U21 C Football Championship Final.
Ultimately, Dromtariffe put together a well organised and efficient performance to come from behind in a revival that denied Ballyclough and Milford combination. Team captain Michael Healy raised aloft the inaugural Mick Dolan Memorial Cup that acknowledges a great Fermoy and Cork legend.
Meanwhile Kilshannig delivered another quality performance on sampling success after defeating Duhallow side Robert Emmets in the Co. U21 B Football Championship decider. From a club reaping the rewards in underage success in recent years, power and pace allied to some brilliant individual performances was good enough to deny the best intentions of the Newmarket and Lismire combination.
Emotional scenes greeted the full time whistle, throngs of Kilshannig supporters lined the Pairc Uí Rinn sward and heard stand in captain Joseph Cronin dedicate the win to great Kilshannig stalwart Anthony Brennan who passed away recently.
And with panel member Eoin O’Sullivan celebrating his 21st birthday, a party atmosphere continued at a bash in Gortroe.
