HISTORIC COUNTY TITLE
When Michael Healy walked the steps of Pairc Ui Rinn to accept the Mick Dolan memorial under-21 County Cup on behalf of Dromtarriffe under-21 footballers he created a little piece of history as the first Club Captain at this grade to win this title.
St Kevin’s the Milford/Ballyclough provided Dromtarriffe a tough challenge getting on the scoreboard with the opening two points of the final. Evan Murphy opened his account with a ninth minute point before Mark Lyons finished brilliantly the matches opening goal a minute later. A brace of Murphy points were answered by St Kevin’s, before Conor Cremin pointed on the 22nd minute. Seven minutes later and Dromtarriffe had to reshuffle their team after Killian O’Sullivan was injured and Gavin O’Keeffe, who had stood up defensively but incurred a black card were replaced by Mark O’Connor and Aidan Downey respectively. The short whistle saw Dromtarrffe ahead 1-5 to O-5.
Second half St Kevin’s had the breeze but it was Dromtarriffe that started the brighter after some words of wisdom imparted in the dressing room. St Kevin’s got to grips again on the game and had their period of dominance which saw 2-3 registered unanswered on the score board between the sixth and 17th minutes of that second half. Conor O’Callaghan led from Midfield to equalise with two well taken points added with points credited to Eannagh Murnagh, Jack Buckley and the final match score fittingly attributed to the winning Captain, who had worked tirelessly throughout the match. As St Kevin’s through an all attack on the Dromtarriffe defence another black card incurred by Jack Murphy saw Daniel Desmond play out the final moments, but the rear guard stood up well to their task and as the whistle blew Dromtarriffe claimed their first under-21 County Football Championship.
Thanks to the Management of Michael John, Jason, Dan Jo and Daniel, physios from David Angland’s Physiotherapy and first aid from Michael O’Connell and Sarah O’Keeffe, who were with the team throughout the year, Noreen McSweeney for the photographs and all who travelled to Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday night to support the team.

As was recently said about another team this is a young developing side, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’. Keep an eye out on the clubs social media for any Junior Hurling or under-21 hurling fixtures as both squads still very active.

Great defensive work from Laura O’Keeffe, Dervla Murphy, Erica and Alison O’Connell which saw little scores being conceded down the other side. Half time leading Dromtarriffe 4.5 Courcey Rovers 1.5.
