LEAVING CERTIFICATE

Congratulations to all the Coachford College students who received wonderful results in their Leaving Certificate last week. The college continues to perform at a hugely high level and the students continue to benefit from excellent results every year. As expected the numbers from the college continuing on to third level institutions in Cork and all over the country was very high. The college reopens on Tuesday, August 29, for first years only and all students return on Wednesday, August 30, debs and Grads.

Over 200 Debutants and Graduates from Coachford College enjoyed the annual ball in Vienna Woods Hotel last Tuesday evening. The boys and girls who all have just completed their leaving certificate at the Mid Cork College got to let their hair down, meet up with their friends and enjoy a superb night out celebrating another chapter in their lives.

Most of the party goers met in Coachford village on Tuesday evening to admire each other’s style, show off their dance partners and enjoy a few pre-party drinks before getting on the fleet of busses to transport them to the Glanmire Hotel. As is usual Vienna Woods came up trumps and looked after all their guests with some fantastic food and a great, secure venue for the end of year celebrations.

MR HORAN LEAVES

Coachford National School will start the new school year without one of the pupils favourite teachers. Mr Michael Horan will take up a new position as Deputy Headmaster in a school in his beloved county of Kerry. He will be a huge loss to Coachford National School.

Mr Horan was a fantastic teacher and was involved in a number of initiatives in the school over the last six years. He encouraged the students to get involved in science, different sports and was instrumental along with Laura Dineen (RIP) from EMC in getting the pupils and the school involved in the VEX Robotics programme.

Everyone wishes Mr Horan the very best in his new role and thanks him for the wonderful contribution he made to the school and the education of the children. Coachford National School reopens on Wednesday, August 30.

TRACTOR BUILDERS

Congratulations to the Broomhill Ladies Tractor Building team who made the trip to Mount Melleray in Waterford last weekend to take part in the Community Silage Day. The girls did two demonstration builds on Saturday and were absolutely fantastic. Huge crowds witnessed the girls build the Ferguson 20 tractor in their best time ever of eight minutes and 20 seconds. This time would have won them the all-Ireland title three years ago.

The Broomhill Ladies are spreading the word around all the festivals in Munster this year that tractor building is a sport for both women and men and that women are as good at it as any male team.
