How time flies, it’s back to school again! Boherbue Comprehens­ive will re-open for First Year students only from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday next, August 29. Second Year, Third Year and Leaving Cert students only required to attend Wednesday, August 30. First Year, Transition Year and Fourth Year only on Thursday, August 31. All classes resume Friday, September 1.

SET DANCING

Classes for beginners start Wednesday September 6 in Pearse Memorial Hall from 8pm. These classes are also for those who want to learn different sets. No partner required. Classes for more difficult sets commence on Thursday September 7 from 8pm. All welcome. Details at 0876800819.

Best of luck to the Juniors football panel and management in Sunday’s Duhallow Championsh­ip decider against Knocknagre­e, which goes ahead from 2pm in Kanturk. The village and surrounds are neatly decorated for the occasion. Hard luck to the injured John Corkery and David O’Connor, two players who have been a big part of the team over the last few years.

Boherbue GAA Club will launch their “Strictly Come Dancing” show on Saturday, September 9, at Billy Murphy’s Bar. The show itself will take place at the Charlevill­e Park Hotel. Date to be confirmed.

Kilbrin JB footballer­s had a convincing win over Kiskeam’s second string team in the championsh­ip on Friday night last.

WILLIAM’S TRIP TO UGANDA

As some of you might be aware, William Egan will be travelling to Uganda this October with Nurture Africa. Nurture Africa is an Irish founded NGO whose mission is to nurture the physical and emotional developmen­t of people in Uganda, who are infected with or affected by HIV. Nurture Africa work to achieve this by providing access to healthcare and education. In order to partake in the programme, William needs to raise €1,500.

As part of his fundraisin­g drive for this worthy cause, William took part in the Blackwater Triathlon on August 12 This was his first triathlon and was a great success for him. William would appreciate any support you can give which will will go a long way in helping Nurture Africa gather much needed funds and no donation too big or too small. All money raised will be going directly to Nurture Africa. William will be paying the cost of flights and vaccinatio­ns himself.

DANCING CLASSES

There will be dancing classes in the community centre starting on Wednesday, September 6. Dancing lessons will include Jiving, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Slosh and Waltz. LACKEEL CROSS CEMETERY

Work continues to restore the Church of Ireland cemetery at Lackeel cross. Anyone willing to help in the restoratio­n effort should contact any member of the committee.

KILBRIN HISTORY

Did you know there was an RIC Barrack in Castlecor in Kilbrin. This was built in August 1843 by Thomas Sheehan Mason and was occupied by the Royal Irish Constabula­ry.

Despite the low number of competitor­s and windy conditions it was a very successful event and we look forward to next year on August 17.

Community spirit was in action with all the locals who manned different stations and the bends on the road, in the interest of the athletes safety. Thanks to everyone involved and to Eamonn Collins who organised the stewarding. Thanks to Collins garage for the lead car, Tadhg Fitzpatric­k for sweep car, to Mallow Civil Defence, Liscarroll Community Council, Gardai from Charlevill­e and to those who manned the water stations and Community Centre afterwards and to this newspaper for its continuous support during the year publishing our results etc and John Walshe, Ballycotto­n for producing the results.

CLUB TRAINING

Club trainign will recommence in September starting on Monday 4th for u9 to u12 athletes only (born 2009-1006) in the Community Centre and for u13 and older on Tuesday 5th (born 2005 or before). Also in Community Centre, the length of the session to be decided later.

COMMUNITY GAMES

A number of athletes were competing at Abbotstown, Co Dublin last weekend. Those who competed were Ciara Whelan 3rd sprint; Amy Whelan 3rd javelin; Hollie McCarthy 3rd 200m; Joe Ivory 4th high jump.

CHURCHTOWN 5 MILE

The Churchtown inaugural 5 mile road race takes place on this Friday evening commencing at 7pm. Registrati­ons at the Community Centre from 5pm. Runners €10 and walkers €5.
