National championships success for cyclists

-

LAST weekend saw over 20 members of O’Leary Stone Kanturk Cycling Club travel to Carlow to compete in the Youth National Cycling Championships.

This is the highlight of the year and all the training for the year culminates in this weekend.

Each cyclist competes in three different events – time trial, road race and criterium. The time trial was raced over an 8km course for all age groups. The road race was then on the outskirts of Carlow.

The U11 and U12 raced on a 9km course, while the U13 and U14 raced 30km and U15 and U16 raced 60km.

The final event was a criterium, which is raced on a closed technical circuit. Great credit has to be given to all of the riders who completed each of the races.

The club had representing teams in each age category namely:

All this success would not be possible without leadership and coaching from Dan Curtin. He has led a huge number of youth cyclists to success over the years.

Well done to you all, you are a great bunch of young people and you have done yourselves, your coach, your club and your families proud.
