What the IBAL judges said

R619 Approach Road from Lower Duhallow Park to the IDA Industrial Estate - Grade A:

“Overall, there was a virtual absence of litter along this route. Much of this road was in good order but there were some sections which were less well maintained e.g. at the base of the road signage near Lower Duhallow Park and immediately west of the entrance to Eglaintine Drive”.

Ballydaheen - Grade A:

“This was not a littered street. However, it was characterised by many derelict properties which were in poor condition. Most of these were quite dirty, some had paint peeling and the occasional broken window”.

Derelict site at Ballydaheen - Grade C:

“A large vacant site with green railings, located at the north end of the street, next to the river. The area was heavily overgrown and has become a magnet for litter - heavy levels of a wide variety of litter were present. There were several signs for business and some art murals along the green fencing”.

Blackwater (Avondhu) Way - Grade A:

“A relatively new addition to the town of Mallow this river walk has been created using beautiful brick work and a wooden boardwalk. There was a virtual absence of litter at this site”.

Main Street - Grade A:

“A vibrant, colourful main street. Ornamental trees, paving, seating, ‘olde’ style street lamps and abundant hanging baskets were in very good order. The overall impression created along this main street was a very positive one.

O’Brien Street - Grade A:

“Many of the buildings were fresh and brightly painted along this wide commercial street. The wide paving opposite ‘Fitzpatrick’s’ was in good order and created a good sense of space. Ornamental trees and bollards were in good order”

Mallow Castle - Grade A:

“The entrance and general environs of same were in very good order. The Castle Grounds were closed to the public due to theatrical event on day of survey”.

Mallow Town Park/Bishop Casey Memorial Park - Grade A:

“An extensive riverside park which was dotted with seating by the river. It is a wonderful resource..

N20 Limerick Approach Road - Grade B:

“The roundabout looked wonderful with purple and white flowers in full bloom. The flower boxes outside some commercial premises were a nice touch along this busy approach route. However, there was a definite litter presence, especially at the derelict site where a wide variety of litter was to be found. Road surface, signage and markings were in good order”.

N20 Connecting Road with Cork - Grade B:

“Area surveyed from Cork north to Mallow. Road surface and signage were in very good sate of repair. There was a litter presence, most obvious between Blarney and Rathduff. The picnic area outside Rathduff was well maintained and immaculate”.
