Family fundraiser a blessing for charities

TWOMEY FAMILY REMORIAL HAS RAISED OVER €127,000 IN FOUR YEARS

- MARIA HERLIHY

THIS year’s Twomey Family Remorial weekend raised just over €16,000, bringing the fundraising figure over the last four years to more than €127,000.

Elber Twomey and her hard-working committee issued a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone for their extremely generous support.

She told The Corkman that they have been blessed to receive such continuing support from their main sponsors Newmarket Motors. Elber also thanked Taxback. com who organised a run in Kilkenny.

For the fourth Twomey Family Remorial held this year, Elber said it was amazing to see all the people who walked, ran and cycled in the damp weather and for all those who joined in the quiz to the many who catered and stewarded in so many ways.

“For everyone who contribued their personal time or finally towards the charities which we are supporting and for everyone who donated so many wonderful prizes, we are sincerely touched by everyone’s kindness. It really means a lot,” said Elber.

This year the remorial raised €16,248 and recently the cheques were presented. A cheque of €4,062 was given to Bru Columbanus in Cork who provide home from home accommodation for relatives of seriously ill patients and the hard-working team at St Joseph’s Foundation in Charleville also received the same amount.

A cheque of €2,708 was each presented to ReachOut, the 3T’s and the Samaritians, who also work to promote positive mental health.

“The Twomey Family Remorial is about remembering Con, Baba Oisin and baby Elber Marie and is centered on valuing how precious life is, so it is our hope that this phenomenal amount will help people in need and, please God, save lives. I want to say a heartflet thank you to everyone for believing in us and our Twomey Family Remorial,” Elber said.
