-

THE recent official press launch of the 2017 Acesigns Cork 20 International Rally in town has fired speed lovers up as massive interest builds.

The launch started off with a photo shoot at the Castle Gates in the Square in Macroom before moving to the Riverside Park Hotel where a a large crowd had gathered. There, was a display of rally cars on show outside the hotel allowing the locals to see some of the machinery that will participate in the rally.

This was followed by some rally clips, speeches and the launch of the promotional video for the event. In attendance where Ian Doyle, Deputy Mayor of Cork county, Aindreas Moynihan TD , Pat O’Connell, Chairman, Lee Valley Enterprise Board and Sargeants Brendan O’Sullivan and Brian Hart of the Garda Siochana. With the large crowd in attendance and the success of the launch night it bodes well for the event itself which will take place from the 29th of September until the 1st of October. The Macroom fundraising committee of the Cork 20 would also like to thank all of the businesses and traders in Macroom and the Lee Valley who have generously supported the event and who took time out to attend the press launch.

A total of 16 stages will be run over the two days. The compact route over the two days will have centralised service, scrutiny and trailer park.

The Classic stages such as Kilnamartyra (which Sebastian Loeb stated as being one of the best he ever competed on), Fuhiry, Lough Allua, will be some of the stages being used in similar formats to what was used in years gone by. The Headquarters for the weekend will be the Riverside Park Hotel.

It is shaping up to be a great weekend and a huge boost to the area, there will also be TV coverage of the stages and area being shown worldwide. Come out and see the event and support the local entries.
