Say cheese: high accolades at awards
THERE were further accolades for cheese products produced by the Old Irish Creamery cheese facility in Effin, Kilmallock, when they won gold, silver and bronze awards at the 2017 Nantwich International Cheese Show in Cheshire in the U.K., which is the biggest international cheese event in the world.
The Co. Limerick factory won a gold award for their Oak Smoked Cheddar variety, a silver award for their Cheddar with Pumpkin Seeds honey and cinnamon, silver for their Cheddar with Walnuts and a bronze award for their Extra Mature Cheddar.
Their Cheddar Cheese with Mango and Ginger received a very highly commended award to crown a great show for the O’Doherty’s Jim and his wife Lulu and son James, who run the factory.
These latest awards brings their total number of awards to 97 achieved at home and abroad since they started entering their products in national and international competitions in 2008. “We are continually looking at ways to improve the quality and variety of our products and researching various flavours to complement our cheddar cheeses, which can compete with the best in the world,” said Master Cheese maker Jim O’Doherty, who also paid tribute to his staff in their production plant located in the heart of the Golden Vale just over the Limerick border from Charleville.
The innovative Old Irish Products are highly popular with Irish consumers and are now on all major Irish supermarket shelves. “We are also exporting to the lucrative food markets across Europe, the United States and Hong Kong,” said marketing manager James O’Doherty.
A huge well done to all of those involved in the award ceremony.
