- PATRICK RYAN Watergrasshill

Kildorrery 0-13 St Finbarrs 0-9

KILDORRERY proved too good for St Finbars in the County IFC quarter-final at Watergrasshill in very wet and windy conditions on Saturday evening.

The winners aided by the wind in the first half had two early wides. Good play by Shane Fitzgerald led to a William Fouhy point in the sixth minute. Barr’s were also off target, they had their opening score by Eoin McGreevey in the eighth minute.

The ‘Hill’ had three rapid points by Finbarr Stapleton, Peter O’Brien and Shane O’Neill. Eoin McGreevey replied with two points as the Seandun side came within a point after 15 minutes play.

St Finbarrs missed a good goal scoring chance when Kevin Hodgins was wide from close range. The Avondhu side recovered well and three points by Tom Monaghan edged Kildorrery 0-7 to 0-3 clear.

Monaghan was denied a good goal scoring chance when John Kerins saved well. Peter O’Brien with a good point made it 0-8 to 0-3. In the 25th minute Tom Monaghan cut through the Barr’s defence but was denied a good goal scoring chance by Colm Barrett with the rebound going out for a 45 that Andrew O’Brien pointed. In injury time Shane O’Neill with two late points gave Kildorrery an interval lead 0-11 to 0-3.

Scores were at a premium on the changeover. James O’Sullivan was put through but his effort at goal was well saved by John Kerins with the rebound going over. Michael O’Donovan pointed for St Finbarrs.

Midway through the half Adrian Murphy and Eoin McGreevey pointed and the lead was down to six 0-12 to 0- 6.

Kildorrery had their last score a point in the 47th minute by James O’Sullivan.

St Finbarrs found it hard to make any real progress up front depending on Eoin McGreevey for scores. They had three late points by Cathal McCarthy Colm Barrett (free) and Michael O’Donovan (free) as Kildorrery held out for a close but deserved win in the end.
