Buttevant and Kildorrery seeking first ever JAFC title

-

Buttevant v Kilworth

BOTH Buttevant and Kilworth are going for their first JAFC title in what is expected to be a well contested showdown on Saturday.

Buttevant lost out to Mitchelstown in the 2013 decider while Kilworth were in the finals of 2006 and 2007 losing to Glanworth and Kildorrery respectively. This year Buttevant had an outstanding campaign that saw them unbeaten in league and championship to date. They had some very good wins in their league games. In the semi final they accounted for Kilshannig and overcame Killavullen in the final by 3-5 to 0-5.

In the JAFC Buttevant had a good win over Ballyclough in the opening round. They then received a bye and defeated Fermoy in the quarter final and just recently defeated Kilshannig in the semi final by 0-15 to 2-4. Kilworth had a reasonable run in the Division 1 FL. They lost to Buttevant, received two walk overs in their last games that ensured they reached the semi final. They lost to Killavullen in the league semi final.

In the JAFC Kilworth defeated Mitchelstown and then Glanworth reaching the semi final where had a win over Killavullen.

Both Buttevant and Kilworth have talented players at their disposal. Buttevant have a very big panel and their success at Minor level over the past three or four years should see them take the title. Kilworth who are a very committed outfit cannot be discounted too easily. It could be very close. Dave Farrell (Jnr) Mitchelstown is the referee.
