PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK

The annual pilgrimage to Knock Shrine will take place this Sunday 10th September. This is a very special date at the shrine as Grandparen­ts day is celebrated. Dana Rosemary Scallon Brown will also attend and sing her famous hymn, “Lady of Knock” in the Basilica. Fr Michael Dorgan P P is the spiritual director on the day,

The cost of the coach is €25 with a stop for breakfast on route and supper on the way home. The coach will leave Castlemagn­er Church car park at 7:45am sharp. Everyone is welcome. For details contact 0868521808.

SINSIR CLUB

The Sinsir Thursday Club will resume on Thursday 14th at 12 noon until 2pm, everyone is welcome to come along and join in on the fun and social aspect of the day.

KILBRIN

Congratula­tions Congrats to Kilbrin native Kate Lewis who was announced the winner of the Irish Hair & Beauty Awards for beauty Salon of the year 2017, for the South West Region of Ireland, at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Dublin, on Sunday night last. We wish Kate the best of luck in the future.

Kilbrin hurlers had a comprehens­ive win over Tullylease in the semi-final of the championsh­ip on Sunday last in Newmarket.

FINAL

Kilbrin play Banteer in the Duhallow final on this Saturday at 2 pm in Newmarket. Kilbrin under trainer Peter Finn and selectors Ivan O Sullivan and Pat Dennehy have worked hard in training and hope fully their hard work will pay off. Kilbrin have been very unfortunat­e to lose their captain Liam Daly and Niall Field to injuries, but I’m sure both players will play every puck of the ball in the game.

Kilbrin know that they have a huge task in hand on Saturday and nothing less than a one hundred percent effort from every player will do on the day. Please come out and support the team who have given us great enjoyment over the years.

Congratula­tions to Boherbue who won the Duhallow Football championsh­ip recently and best wishes to them on Saturday when they play the first round of the county.

SUICIDE REMEMBERAN­CE

On Friday evening last 1st September, a large crowd gathered at Kilbrin Cemetry where prayers were recited by Fr. Micheal Leader PP for all those who lost their lives through suicide, and for those suffering from mental illness.

This event will be an annual event taking place on the first Friday of September. Thanks to everyone that attended!!A cuppa was enjoyed by all in the social club.

BINGO

Bingo continues every Monday at 8.30 sharp. Jackpot is €1,550. Bonus ball is €520 on the house. Please come along and enjoy the evening.

JIVING CLASSES

There will be jiving classes in the community centre starting on Wednesday 6th September. These will be weekly and will last for six weeks. For further informatio­n please ask at the community centre or contact Claire on 087 7833636.

CEMETERY WORKS

Work continues to restore the Church of Ireland cemetery at Lackeel cross. Gates will be restored to their original state. Drawings of the original church have been acquired and these will be on display for the St Stephens day walk.

SOCIAL CLUB.

The social club AGM was held during the week. Chairman Vinny Hayes thanked all those young and old for their support throughout the year. This club and its activities is of great benefit to the community.

Upcoming at the Sports and Social club: Crystal swing are coming on the October Bank Holiday weekend and a great night is assured. Pencil this into your diary.

45 DRIVE

The weekly 45 drive will be returning to the social club towards the end of September. More details will follow in this column.

Kilbrin Community Council would like to sympathise to the Forde family on the recent passing of Kathleen. May she rest in peace.

TIR NA NOG

The Tir Na Nog active retirement group will begin yoga classes starting this Thursday morning at 10.30. These classes are open to members and non members so please come along to try it out. The yoga includes seated yoga as well as normal yoga so everyone is catered for.

KILBRIN HISTORY

Did you know that the ceiling of Ballygrady school collapsed in July 1970. The school which was 127 years old at the time was in bad repair. Luckily the school was empty when it happened. A public meeting had been arranged for that week to discuss the state of the school. The incident was reported in the Cork examiner on 27 July 1970.

ANNIVERSAR­Y MASS

We are approachin­g the first anniversar­y of our beloved Father Campbell who was the first priest to pass away while serving the people of Kilbrin.

SUICIDE AWARENESS

A mass for National Suicide Day in Charlevill­e Church on this Sunday evening at 7.00pm, in honour of all those who lost their lives through suicide, and those suffering from mental illness. There will be a get together after mass in the Square near the Library, where refreshmen­ts will be served.

Congratula­tions to Boherbue who won the Duhallow Football championsh­ip recently and best wishes to them on Saturday when they play the first round of the county. then put over a few brilliant long range efforts for Clyda before Tim Buckley joined the scoring ranks, Clyda leading 0-7 to 0-3.

Ballycloug­h did pull one back but Jack Phelan quickly replied for Clyda. Another from the impressive Adam Walsh and a second point by Jack Phelan had Clyda 0-10 to 0-4 in the clear in the final moments. A late Ballycloug­h point was more than cancelled out by well taken Tim Buckley goal, as Clyda ran out winners by 1-10 to 0-4.

Clyda next face either Kilshannig or Kildorrery in the final.
