TIME FOR YOUNG LEADERS TO SHINE AT GARDA YOUTH AWARDS

GARDAÍ TO HONOUR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO MAKE POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION

- MARIA HERLIHY

TEENAGERS frequently get a bad rap but it’s certainly not always the case. To highlight the good which so many young people do in North Cork, the Cork North Garda division, in association with Supermacs , will host their achievement awards next month at the Charleville Park Hotel.

Any members of the public over 18 years of age can nominate a young person aged between 14-19 years who live sin the division, which includes Midleton, Cobh, Youghal, Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Charleville, Mallow, Kanturk and Newmarket.

The awards recognise the positive contribution of young people to make their locality a better place in which to live and, in addition, it recognises young people who have shown great determination in their own lives.

The awards recognise achievements up to and including this year and an individual or groups can be nominated. The awards are confined to young people who are not younger than 14 years of age and not more than 19 years old on December 31, 2017. The nominees must reside in the Cork North division and the community activities must have taken place in the Cork North division.

Application forms are now available in every Garda station in the Cork North division and any queries can be directed to the local Garda Juvenile Liaison Officers or Community Gardai based at Fermoy, Mallow, Mitchelstown, Midleton, Youghal, Cobh or Kanturk stations.

Completed forms are to be completed in as much detail as possible and returned to Garda Pat Hegarty, Juvenile Liaison Officer based at Cobh Garda station.

The award winners will be notified by Friday, October 27 and will then be invited to attend an awards ceremony on Thursday, November 23 at the Charleville Park Hotel.
