A Culture Night message from the Mayor

-

“CULTURE Night is an annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts. This year, it will take place on Friday 22nd September between 5pm and 11pm. On Culture Night, arts and cultural organisations, venues of all shapes and sizes, artists, and voluntary and community groups programme special and exciting events for their communities to enjoy and everything is available free of charge.

This is the seventh year of Culture Night in County Cork, and with 100 free arts and cultural events in over 40 towns and villages around the county it’s the biggest yet. It’s a fantastic opportunity for communities in all corners of the county to be adventurous and experience a wealth and variety of free arts, culture and heritage events. I’m really looking forward to attending some of these events.

There’s plenty to choose in the extensive Cork County Programme, which you can find at

Some of my highlights are:

The Glanworth Community Centre will host the Glanworth players from 8.30pm-11pm. They will present Glanworth players are delighted to present ‘Embracing our Culture’ a celebration on this our national culture night.

If you want to exercise your cúpla focal, Gaeilgeoirí Chois Móire will host an evening of Irish language, song and stories in Fermoy Youth Centre.

There is a great opportunity to see young emerging film talent on Culture Night as Mitchelstown Young Filmmakers are screening short films made during the ‘Cork Young Filmmakers’ workshops alongside other award winning films made by young filmmakers and screened at the annual First Cut! Youth Film Festival.

You could be meeting the makers of the next ‘Young Offenders’.

The Cork Adult Education Centre, New Street, Macroom will hold the following from 5pm-11pm: Art Exhibition; storytelling with Pat Speight; Blas nu Gaeilge: Amhránaíocht na Mumhan le Caitllín Ni Bheaglaíoch; a performance from Macroom Community Choir; and a session with musician and songwriter Ger Wolfe.

There are many more events hosted in a number of locations countywide. There are events to suit all tastes and I would call on everyone to attend some of them.

As Mayor of the County of Cork, I would like to thank all of the organisations and individuals who are taking part in this fantastic event.

I hope that the night is a resounding success for all”.
