- BILL BROWNE

FEMALE entrepreneurs from across the North Cork region have been urged to help increase their chances of success through a dedicated programme being hosted by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO).

The Office is seeking expressions of interest in their aptly named ‘Women In Business’ course, with an information morning outlining the initiative set to take place at the Charleville Park Hotel from 10am on Friday morning.

Speaking to The Corkman LEO business adviser Joan Kelleher said the programme was just one element of their ongoing commitment to promoting and encouraging women to take a leading role in business across all sectors.

“The course is aimed specifically at female owners/partners of small businesses with between 1-10 employees. Applicants must be actively engaged in the management of their business and will have been trading for a minimum of 12-months and have completed the standard start your own business course.”

She said that over the course of eight training sessions, participants will work with qualified trainers who will assist them in growing, developing and diversifying their businesses.

“The programme will be ideal for people wishing to broaden their knowledge in a variety of key areas including strategy, finance, raising money, marketing and sales, PR, social media and pitching a business plan,” said Ms Kelleher.

“It will also be of benefit to those currently facing challenges within their business or those who are in the process of changing some of their products and services and need guidance, direction and support,” she added.

There will be a maximum of 15 women participating in the programme, which Ms Kelleher said would provide “excellent networking opportunities within members the group and with their contacts.”

The subsided fee for the course will be €150 per person, which will include all associated handouts and refreshments, and it is open to those operating within the North Cork catchment area including Duhallow, Charleville, Mallow Fermoy and Mitchelstown.

Application forms and full details are available online at www.localenterprise.ie/corknorthandwest or at the information morning on Friday when the location and times for the programme will also be available.
