WHAT A LEGEND OUR OWN RENA IS!

-

MACROOM LGFC would like to congratulate the Cork Ladies Senior Camogie team on a brilliant 0-10 to 0-9 win over Kilkenny in the All-Ireland. Last minute scores from Gemma O’Connor to equalise on the stroke of 60 minutes and Julia White, finally broke Kilkenny hearts in the seventh minute of injury time to secure the win and bring the O’Duffy Cup back to Leeside.

The club is extremely proud of local lady Rena Buckley who captained the side to gain her 18th All Ireland title. Rena now has seven titles in Camogie as well as 11 titles in football. What a legend and such an inspiration to all our young ladies.

Meanwhile, Macroom’s Minor ladies had a tough game in their second league outing and were unlucky to lose out to a very skilled Ballincollig side. Ballincollig dominated the first half and had built up a considerable lead by the time the half time whistle blew.

The Macroom girls had a brilliant second half where they controlled most of the play but despite a valiant effort they couldn’t claw back the first half deficit, finishing with a very credible 4-7 to 7-9.

The next match is today, Thursday September 14, against St Michael’s away in Mahon.

The U8’s and U10’s hosted Grenagh in the Castle Grounds and almost 30 girls in total played. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout and the games were enjoyed by all.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the U8’s & U10’s travelled to Passage West for a monster fun blitz that included over 120 teams. It was a huge event, with great fun and excitement.

The day started out with a parade. Both the U8’s and the U10’s played four games each, against teams from Glanmire, Bandon Cats, Foxrock Cabinteely, Kilmacud Crokes Tigers, Firies Tigers, Kilavullen, St Ailbe’s Cats from Limerick and Cloyne.

The girls impressed in every game and gave a great account of themselves and had great fun. There was great support from their parents as always and the support is greatly appreciated.

At a higher age group and following a massive team performance last Monday, the U13 ladies did the club proud yet again when they defeated Douglas 5-6 to 1-4 in their league semi-final.

Some incredible play in all positions saw Macroom power through to secure their place in the league final.

These young ladies have come so far in a short amount of time and great credit is due to all players and their mentors. They are showing a bright future for the club and great role models for the younger girls to look up to. Their League Final match is set for this Wednesday, September 13 and so will be played by the time this goes to press.

The Mid- Cork board has decided to run an U14 Autumn league so in light of this the U14 training began last Wednesday at 6.30pm and will continue every Wednesday at the same time in Tom Creedon Park. All ladies train at this time, from U8 through to Minor and new players are always welcome.
