MACROOM GAA JUVENILES:

-

SYMPATHY: Firstly, the juvenile committee would like to offer our sympathy to the family of the late Thady Oldham. Thady was a staunch member of Macroom GAA club for many years and was active on several fronts. He sold about €160,000 worth of lotto tickets over 22 years, maintained and prepared our pitches, and was an unflappable umpire. His service to the club was huge. Ar dheis Dé a anam dilís.

MATCH REPORTS: U16’S: They gave a great display in their first round P2 championship match against Ballygarvan in Ballincollig on Saturday.

With wind advantage in the first half, Macroom played intelligently and were up 0-5 to nil after 15 minutes.

They added three very well taken goals before the break. Firstly Dylan Twomey took a great ball, cut inside, rounded the goal-keeper and shot to an unguarded net. Then Bradley O’Shea got the ball to the left of goal, and with the outside of his boot clipped an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net.

Before half-time Shane Meaney gained possession in front of goal and with great composure, jinked right, then left and slotted home. The half-time score was 3-6 to 0-1. After the break Ballygarvan came into the game and struck the crossbar early in the second half. Macroom weathered that storm and got some fine points to stretch their lead. Relaxing, Macroom conceded two goals and some points late in the game.

Ballygarvan also hit the crossbar twice more. The final score was Macroom 3-12 to 2-6 for Ballygarvan. Macroom play Passage in the semifinal next Saturday with venue and time remain to be fixed.

Congratulations to all involved and best of luck in the semi-final.

U8’s: They played as part of the Sam Maguire Festival in Dunmanway.

U6’s: They hosted Éire Óg in Castle Grounds on Saturday morning and they really enjoyed themselves and ‘really earned their crisps afterwards’.
