Ní Riada praises Cúil Aodha Wall
SINN Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada has congratulated all those involved in the creation and unveiling of the Cúil Aodha Memorial Wall on Saturday.
The wall, which was accompanied by a memorial booklet, pays tribute to eight people from the local area renowned for their work in the community, as well as to members of Cúil Aodha companies of the Irish Volunteers and Cumann na mBan.
“There were several groups and individuals involved in the creation of the Memorial Wall and I want to pay tribute to all of them for their incredible work,” she said.
“The wall itself is a beautiful monument and a fitting way to remember the many people from this small community who have made significant contributions to people’s lives both locally, nationally and internationally.
“The unveiling ceremony on Saturday was a wonderful display of community spirit and really showed the pride everyone has in the area.
“I was particularly privileged to be able to unveil the plaque in memory of my mother, Ruth, who was a fantastic champion of the Gaeltacht, feminist and writer.
“I was also delighted to see that the wall is to be an ongoing project. Cúil Aodha, for such a small place, has produced many remarkable people and I’m sure the wall will hold many more plaques in the future.”
