DUHALLOW champions Boherbue proved too potent a mix for Urhan to a onesided County JAFC opening round at Inchigeela on Saturday last.

From a contest, well and truly completed long before the full time whistle, all through the hour, Boherbue held far more energy and an ascendency in most of the man on man exchanges.

With a number of changes in personel from the side that started the divisional final triumph in the replay, Boherbue made an early statement of intent as Urhan struggled to deal with their opponents fluid transition from defence to attack.

Indeed Boherbue got off to the proverbial flyer, lapse play by the Urhan rearguard allowed Jerry O’Connor’s angled effort thread a path to the net. Urhan gathered some brief respite from a pointed free by Seán O’Sullivan and a clear plan on operating a sweeper system took Boherbue a spell to manoeuvre.

Clearly the dominant side, very little passed the O’Gorman brothers at midfield, backed up by a solid half back line of C J O’Sullivan, Kevin Cremin and Alan Guerin. And with Urhan defence prone to lapses, Boherbue availed of hesitancy for a speculative Mikie O’Gorman delivery land in the net again.

Those two strikes inside the opening quarter gave Boherbue, the platform to build up a solid foundation and hold a commanding 2-6 to 0-2 grip at the break.

Urhan relied on O’Sullivan and Philip O’Shea for their lone scores as Boherbue continued to create an impression on the restart, Richard Moynihan netting surperbly in the 41st minute. By now, Boherbue were running down their bench, all six substitutes contributing to a competent all round showing.

On the run in to the last whistle, Boherbue maintained an offensive streak, Moynihan netting his second goal to rubberstamp the perfect start in the county campaign for the Duhallow champions.
