Banteer hit the road to face Brian Dillons
THE clash of Banteer and Brian Dillons in round 1 to the County JAHC at Pairc Uí Rinn on Friday evening brings together the champions of Duhallow and Seandun runners up. From a contest brimful with potential, Banteer are well aware they will have to perform at their best against a side that have become a formidable force in the grade.
However, the new Duhallow champions relish the challenge of delivering a promising performances. Looking at their progress this season, Banteer paraded capable showings as the campaign progressed. All through, Banteer held the experience and skills to hold the measure of Tullylease, Kilbrin, Dromtariffe and again hold the upperhand on Kilbrin in the decider to regain the title after an eleven year lapse.
Indeed Banteer are looking enthusiastically to the challenge on hand under the tuteleage of team coach Eoin O’Mahony though at this level, its pretty competitive given the defending Cork champions Mayfield progressed to land All Ireland honours earlier this year.
Enroute Mayfield endured a severe test to thwart Brian Dillons in the city final. Given the elevation of Mayfield to intermediate ranks, that placed Dillons are favourites for the Seandun championahip only for them to come up short by a narrow margin to Nemo Rangers in a pulsating tussle.
So near and so far sums up Dillons march over recent years, best remembered for an epic final against Kildorrery in the 2012 decider only to lose agonisingly by another small margin.
With a second chance as divisional runners up, Brian Dillons will present a formidable challenge to Banteer. With much at stake, it has the makings of an intriguing contest and though Dillons are spoken of a side ready to create an impression at county level, Banteer will not lack effort in pursuit of a position in a quarter-final.
