Kilshannig through to Junior C HC semi-final
Kilshannig 2-13 Ballygiblin 1-9
KILSHANNIG with a good second half emerged winners over Ballygiblin in the JCHC quarter-final at Castletownroche on Sunday.
This game was very evenly contested up to the 51st minute as the sides had been level on three occasions. Colin Twomey opened with a pointed free for the victors. Liam O’Gorman levelled from a free. Diarmuid O’Sullivan was in splendid form for Kilshannig and took some delightful points in the first half as his side moved 0-5 to 0-1 clear.
Fionn Herlihy pointed for Ballygiblin who also had three wides in quick succession. In the 27th minute a ‘65’ by Liam O’Gorman was finished to the net by Jack Norris as Ballygiblin led at the break 1-4 to 0-5.
Liam O’Gorman pointed a free on the resumption. Kilshannig wind assisted came back strong. Colin Twomey and Richie Ryan had points before Liam O’Gorman edged Ballygiblin 1-6 to 0-7 clear after 41 minutes. Kilshannig got back on terms by the 50th minute 1-7 to 0-10.
Eoin O’Sullivan and Liam O’Gorman swopped a point as Joe Caplice made a vital save from David Ruby with the rebound going to Phelim O’Connell who placed Ruby for a well taken goal 1-11 to 1-8.
Diarmuid O’Sullivan and Ruby added a point each. Liam O’Gorman pointed a Ballygiblin ‘65’ in injury-time.
In the 63rd minute David Ruby put Frank McCarthy in for a goal that sealed victory by a seven point margin in the end.
