KILBRIN HISTORY
Did you know there was an RIC Barrack in Castlecor in Kilbrin. This was built in August 1843 by Thomas Sheehan Mason and was occupied by the Royal Irish Constabulary and had a sergeant and two constables stationed in it. Beside the barrack there was a high stone wall specially built for the occupants to play handball.
There was a cell in the barrack, mainly used to hold people who were worse for wear and there is a nearby field called the ‘camp field’ as soldiers camped there before the battle of Knocnanuss. The R.I.C. left after the 1916 rising and the barrack was sold in auction. For many years after it was rented to local teachers.
