It was all eyes on the stage at Billy Murphys Bar on Saturday night last when the contestant­s for the forthcomin­g Strictly Come Dancing show were introduced to a packed attendance. Club vice chairman Michael Cronin and secretary Kiara Lenihan acted as MC with Michael introducin­g the ladies and Kiara the men.

The show itself will be held on Saturday, Oct 14 at the Charlevill­e Park Hotel — more details later.

CLASSES

The Ener-Chi Balance autumn series of classes are as follows: Qigong and Tai Chi commences in the Pearse Memorial Hall on Monday, Sept 18, 7.30-9pm for four weeks. They also commenced on Wednesday of this week at the New Leaf Health Shop in Kanturk 11am12.30pm.

Total Yoga Nidra — a four week deep relaxation course started this week — Tuesdays 7.30-9pm at the Kanturk Health Shop and Wednesdays at the New Leaf in Charlevill­e again 7.30-9pm

CAMINO PILGRIMAGE–This Pilgrimage is to the shrine of St. James in Northern Spain.It is combined with a five day sponsored walk to raise money for The Nazareth House building fund. Fr. Keogh plans to do this Camino walk in October (5th to 10th). Sponsorshi­p cards are in Casey’s Shop in Freemount and Casey’s Shop at Johnsbridg­e,and Barry’s Bar, and at The Kerry Co-op Store,Freemount.

COMHALTAS

At our recent Comhaltas meeting held in The Heritage Centre with Máire Ui Chólmáin, Cathaoirle­ach presiding. Arrangemen­ts were made for the following events.

Culture night will be held in The Heritage Centre on Friday September 22nd.

Music and Singing classes begin on Wednesday September 27th.Willie Dunne week-end November 24/25/26th. The concert of all concerts to be held on Saturday November 25th.in Freemount Community Centre with the three All Ireland Céilí Band winners.(The Shandrum, U15 and U 18 Bands) and other all Ireland winners. Please make a note of the date and don’t miss it.

The Cathaoirle­ach congratula­ted Alan Finn on the record created at The All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Ennis, when The 12-15 Céilí Band ,The 15-18 Céilí Band and The Shandrum Céilí Band brought all Ireland honours to our Branch and to Co. Cork.

She thanked him for all his hard work and dedication and wished him luck for the year ahead. Several other members joined in the tribute. Alan thanked the members and informed the meeting that the Shandrum will celebrate their 3 in a row with a dinner social in The Springfort Hall, on Friday October 13th.

The meeting concluded with the passing of sincere votes of sympathy to the family relatives and friends of-David Fitzgibbon, Mc.Auliffe, Taur,Josephine Fehin, Ballinla, Freemount,James Hudner, Ballybahal­low, Freemount. And Lizzie Crowley, Dunmanway. R.I.P.

MUSIC CLASSES–As the new music classes begin on Wednesday September 27th. We will have another enrolment night for all instrument­s, Céilí bands and grupaí cheoil’s on Wednesday night next September 20th. At 7pm. This is to accommodat­e anybody who missed last week’s enrolment night as It is imperative that we have the number of all pupils starting music for the coming year before we set up our classes etc.. We appeal to all parents to contact us not later than Wednesday night next.

RECENT DEATH

The death took place last week of Josephine Fehin, Ballinla Freemount after a short illness. She is deeply mourned by her loving husband Timothy and Daughter Edwina and a large circle of relatives and friends. May her soul rest in peace.

THE THURSDAY CLUB

The next get together of The Thursday Club will be held on this Thursday September 14th. at 2pm. In Cois Abhann Centre. Everybody welcome. A special invitation to new members ,who are always welcome.

BADMINTON CLUB
