St. Peter’s under 15 footballer­s defeated Muintir na nGael from Carbery in Macroom in the County Final on Friday night last on a score of 5-9 to 2-7. St. Peters dominated the first half to lead by 4 goals at half time but Muintir na nGael took over for the first 20 minutes of the second half to reduce the deficit to 2 goals. However, once St. Peters got their first score of the second half, they finished convincing winners. The St. Peters team was : Ciaran Curtin, Brian Carroll, David Carroll, Jack Kelly, Pat Curtin, Dylan Culhane, Cathal Broderick (capt.), Declan Buckley, Cormac Curtin, Dan Dineen, Cian Broderick, Jimmy McAuliffe. Subs: Brian Murphy, Killian Doody.

St. Marks minor hurlers had a convincing win over St. Kevins in the minor hurling semi final and will play the final next weekend.

The juvenile club would like to thank all those who contribute­d to the Church Gate Collection on Sunday last.

MACRA

Freemount Macra have made it through to the National Semi-final of Club of the Year! We are delighted to announce that we have reached the final 12 for the National Club of the Year title! Well done to all club members on such a brilliant achievemen­t!

Last Friday night club members took part in the Regional round of Question Time in Shanballym­ore and on Saturday night we headed west for a night out to the Top of Coom and Kenmare. On Wednesday last we had great fun with Banteer Macra for our weekly Sports night.

Our next club meeting is Sunday the 17th September in the Heritage Centre in Freemount at 8:30pm. New members always welcome.

We would like to wish club members Niall Ring, Lisa Ring and Danny O’Donoghue the very best of luck in the National Ploughing Championsh­ips on Wednesday and Thursday as they compete in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Make sure you call to support them and also to the Macra stand for lots of fun and antics!

Other upcoming events include the Avondhu Macra Ball on the 23rd September in the Springfort Hall. Tickets are €35 for a 4 course meal and music by The Waxies. Tickets are available from club members. Great night guaranteed.

As the Management positions are set for a 3 year period, new people are now due to be elected, as per the Groups Charter. Therefore, we encourage each local group in Meelin to be present on the night, where the funds selection & distributi­on will be explained, as well as election of new management.

COMMUNITY HALL

The AGM of Meelin Community Hall Group will be heid on Monday 2nd October at 8.00pm. To ensure the continued success of the community hall people are encouraged to attend the AGM and put forward any new ideas.
