Student wellbeing

STUDENT wellbeing is of paramount importance in Davis College. For us, it is essential all students feel they are valued members of that community where they can develop their talents and pursue their goals as they grow into young adults. To ensure this happens we have a number of key structures in place. These include:

Class Teacher I.T.

Every student has a designated Class Teacher.

Year Head

Year Heads have responsibi­lity for a year group and work closely with Class Teachers.

Buddy System

This is where Transition Year students work with 1st year groups.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing has been introduced as part of the new Junior Cycle.

Book Rental Scheme

The College operates a book rental scheme for all Junior and Leaving Certificat­e students. Under this scheme students can rent all their school books for an annual set fee.

T here has been a recent investment worth in excess of €30,000 into IT in the College. This has seen the refurbishm­ent of a computer room as well as the introducti­on of laptops for DCG. This investment has served to improve the excellent IT facilities already available in the College where all rooms have data projectors and many have interactiv­e whiteboard­s.

Catering Facilities

‘Get Fresh’ catering company provide hot and cold meals each day in the College. In line with school policy the company pursues a healthy eating agenda and all meals are cooked on site using locally sourced ingredient­s. Fizzy drinks, chocolate etc. are not supplied in the school.

School Bus

Students who avail of the school bus service are dropped at the school each morning and collected each afternoon.

Physical Education

The College has a comprehens­ive PE programme in place.

Career Guidance and Counsellin­g:

Two full time Guidance Counsellor­s are available in the College.

Home-School- Community-Liaison (HSCL):

The College has a dedicated HSCL Coordinato­r who supports students and ensures effective communicat­ion between parents and the College.

School Completion Programme (SCP):

The SCP programme provides additional practical supports for students.

Special Educationa­l Needs (SEN) department:

Davis College retains a very dedicated SEN team who work hard with students identified as needing extra support in certain areas.
