The Corkman

Model United Nations

-

THE Model United Nations project is a very unique initiative in Irish schools. Davis College has become the foremost school in the country in this project, which is popular in academic schools across Europe. This highly prestigious event attracted over 600 delegates in 2017 from Ireland, Europe and beyond. The event takes place in Cork City Hall and is traditionally opened by the Lord Mayor of the City. Most impressive about the Model UN is that as well as participating as delegates, Davis College TY students organise and run the four day event in Cork City Hall. In every sense of the word it is a student led event.

Participation as a delegate at the conference involves considerable research and knowledge as well as an ability to speak publically. Students in the College begin in first year and develop these skills improving and developing them year on year. In second year, students can travel to Porto in Portugal for a conference while 4th/5th years visit Lisbon. MUN enriches students in such areas as self esteem, confidence, research skills, public speaking abilities, organisational skills and many more.

It is a key pillar of our Student Enrichment Initiative in the school and an experience unique to Davis College.
