The Corkman

Derby clash has potential to be an absolute cracker

-

KANTURK’S intermediate footballers will look to follow the club’s hurling side into the final of their respective competition next Saturday afternoon in Charleville. The boys from the banks of the Allow and the Dallow are right now riding the crest of a wave at the club as everything the adult sides’ seem to touch turns to gold.

The men in green and white had to battle hard last weekend to see off Glanworth in pretty tough conditions setting up what is a hotly anticipated north Cork clash with a highly fancied Kildorrery. Both sides have impressed to get to this point already however it may be obvious to say that neither will be satisfied with just a semi-final berth.

Kanturk come into this clash with some heavy hitters in their ranks with names synonymous with inter-county exploits, Lorcan McLoughlin and Aidan Walsh joined by Paul and Ian Walsh as well as Karl Holland in what will likely be a serious starting fifteen.

Kildorrery have many stars of their own on show but will be hoping that their overall balance and teamwork may swing things in their favour.

Kildorrery come into this one buoyed by some impressive displays and results after seeing off Glanmire, Glenville and St Finbarr’s to get to this point while Kanturk’s progression has been more than satisfactory itself with wins over high flying Mitchelstown, Rockchapel and Glanworth in their back pockets.

Another tough championship to call with the likes of Mitchelstown and Cill na Martra still in the hunt here so this one title really is up for grabs.

If Kanturk can get to the showpiece game it will be a brilliant achievement for a club that has been fighting competitively on many fronts for several years while for Kildorrery a place in the final would be no less than this progressive club deserves after so many years of fighting hard in a land filled with giants.

The punter in me says Kanturk however, what focus has been lost as the club prepares for their clash with Mallow for Premier hurling crown the following week has yet to be shown.

Kildorrery will beat Kanturk if they are not totally on their game and if they win they will deserve their spot in Pairc Ui Rinn against either Mitchelstown or Cill na Martra. Exciting times for all.
