KILDORRERY are this year’s O’Sullivan Hurley’s (Mitchelstown) Rebel Og sponsored Northern Under 16 B2 HC champions when they defeated a gallant Doneraile side in the final at Castletownroche on Thursday evening.

The opening stages were very close with the sides level for the third time at 0-3 apiece by the 10th minute the points by Sean Cunningham, Darren Linehan, Stephen Ryan, Sean Watson, David Hunter and Tony O’Flynn for their respective sides.

For the rest of the half Kildorrery gained total control with Mattie Walsh/O’Grady Timmy O’Sullivan, Richie Hurley, Sean Cunningham, David Hunter and Sean Watson most effective.

By the end of the first quarter they moved double scores in front 0-6 to 0-3. Further pressure yielded a point each by Sean Watson and David Hunter before they struck for the first of their three goals in the 24th minute when Kieran Hurley was denied by a fine save by the Doneraile keeper Fionn Walsh / O’Grady with the rebound falling kindly into the path of Kieran Hurley who dispatched to the net.

Just before the half time whistle good work by Timmy O’Sullivan and Kieran Hurley resulted in Sean Watson adding another point and it helped them hold a 1-9 to 0-3 interval advantage.

On the changeover Doneraile came out a transformed side with Nathan Relihan, Cian Donlon, Darren Linehan, Jamie Carroll, Tony O’Flynn and Stephen Ryan making their presence felt from the offset.

Darren Linehan was very accurate from frees and ‘65’s. Linehan picked off four points with Tony O’Flynn adding a point from general play that narrowed the deficit to just a goal by the 38th minute 1-9 to 0-9.

Just when Doneraile looked like in a great position to close the deficit further it was Kildorrery that struck for a vital score a minute later when a delivery by Timmy O’Sullivan was finished to the net by Padraigh O’Flynn.

The last 20 minutes were very much point for point, Darren Linehan and Sean Cunningham traded a point by the 42nd minute with Pierce Pigott, Nathan Relihan, Sean Cunningham and Stephen Ryan exchanging points by the 53rd minute 2-12 to 0-12.

In the closing moments Kildorrery finished off any hopes of another revival by Doneraile. Sean Watson added two late points before Sean Cunningham with their third goal at the end of normal time set them on their way to s fully deserved victory.
