MUINFLIUCH SCHOOL
Just over a week ago there was great excitement at Munifliuch School, when they welcomed 11 of Brother Charles former students from Malaysia for the unveiling of the Stone Seat in his honour. This event was graciously hosted by Eileen Foley Principal of the school.
Brother Charles M O’Leary from Clashloura Carriganima started his education in Muinfliuch National School. He joined the De La Salle Brothers and completed his education in London. He then travelled to Borneo, Malaysia, with the Brothers in the 1950s and helped to establish a secondary school in the state of Sabah and became principal in 1969. He dedicated his life to the education of the local community. When he retired he continued to support the school by running a boarding house for students, he also served on the board of management.
The registered trustees of La Salle Initiative donated the funds to establish a monument in his memory at his old National School, in appreciation of all his hard work. The stone seat was unveiled by Tan Sri Richard, Chief Judge of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak. Fr Wickham blessed the stone seat.
A large crowd attended, including Michael Creed Minister for Agriculture, Clr. Michael Creed, Brother Martin of De La Salle Castletown Co. Laois, John Murphy Principal of De La Salle Macroom. Many of his relations and of course the teachers, pupils
