Tickets to Ed in the Páirc add to GAA clubs draw appeal

- JOHN TARRANT

THE Cork GAA Clubs draw continues to prove its reputation as one of country’s most popular and successful fundraisers and the latest version, launched last week, has lots to tempt supporters.

GAA clubs county-wide are in the midst of supporting the 2017/18 draw which is offering an attractive array of prizes, including tickets for Ed Sheerin’s sell out gigs at Pairc Uí Chaoimh, a chance to win premium level seats at the venue, holidays and many cash offers.

Originated in 1992 following the purchase of Páirc Uí Rinn by the Cork County Board, to date more than €20 million has helped fund local club ventures. Proceeds from the draw offers investment in games development and coaching, risk free funding for clubs and capital projects support in addition to a sizeable proportion returning to the promoting club.

Munster GAA chairman Jerry O’Sullivan applauded all involved in the project when speaking at the 2017/18 launch.

“The draw is a winner for the clubs and county board, who generate the finance. It takes vision and a plan, and everybody works together as do clubs and county board, that’s very evident in County Cork. There is a strong demand for providing facilities for young people and supporting this GAA promotion can leave a legacy to attract and add to the further development of Gaelic games,” said Mr O’ Sullivan.

“It’s great to be involved, there is nothing more local than participating in your own club. People love the passion of the club and enjoy success. It’s important to be part of a sense of belonging, and proceeds from the draw put together a positive contribution to one’s area”, he said.

Tickets cost €100 per annum with a guaranteed 45% contribution to the draw member’s club, rising to 58% when an agreed target is achieved.

Each club has a co-ordinator with a total of €450,000 in prizes available, ranging from cash prizes to cars to holidays and more. And, of course, premium tickets to Ed Sheerin in the brand new Páirc Uí Chaoimh will be very tempting, too.
