State of the art extension at Colaiste Treasa in Kanturk

COLAISTE TREASA NOW HAS 530 PUPILS ON ITS ROLL BOOK

-

EDUCATION now is a life-long experience and students can be certain that when they walk out the gates of Colaiste Treasa they will have received a truly solid educational foundation.

That was the view of the Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, who was the guest of honour at the official opening of a new extension at Colaiste Treasa in Kanturk.

He addressed the students and said they were privileged to be receiving such a quality education in the environment which Colaiste Treasa provides.

“But I would urge you to use it as a foundation for life. Education is something that is now life-long. We live in such a rapidly changing world. For my generation, and further back than that, education was seen as stopping when you left secondary school and, indeed, it was a privilege to complete five years in secondary schools and a true privilege to go to third level,” he said.

“To survive and reach your full and true potential, education now is a life-long learning experience. You will have to embrace the educational opportunities for all of your life because the concept of a job for life is a thing of the past.

“You may qualify in your particular area but I can almost guarantee that by the time you reach the end of your working career you will have had many different jobs as we are in an era of such a rapidly changing environment,” said Minister Creed.

Regarding his own portfolio, he said agriculture has “hundreds of opportunities” for employment both “inside and outside the farm gate.”

Colaiste Treasa principal John Murphy said it was a historic day for the school with the official opening of their new extension.

The state of the art extension includes science rooms, home economics room, and prep room which allow the school to cater for their expanding student population, which presently stands at 530.

He thanked everyone who played a role in making the extension a reality, including the board of management and staff, as well as Minister Creed for accepting their invitation to attend.
