Top day for West Muskerry AC

-

WEST Muskerry AC travelled to Riverstick for the Even Age Cross Country County Championships. While conditions were very tough for the athletes they all battled their way around the hills and muck. Medals were awarded to the first six home and also the first three teams.

Rachael O’Shea was the first athlete in action and she competed in the Novice and U 23 race. Rachael worked really hard though the race and she was rewarded for her efforts when she crossed the line in first place in the U 23 category. It was a great start to the day for the club.

In the Girls U 10 1000m, most of the athletes were running up an age and it was their first time running for the club. Eabha Ni Chonaola came storming home in thrrd place and her team mate Rebecca O’Neill followed very closely in fourth place. Their team finished in second place which was a fantastic achievement for the girls. The team was Eabha Ni Chonaola, Rebecca O`Neill, Sarah Neville, Grace Duarte, Katie Purcell, Sarah Kelleher and Eadaoin Kelleher.

In the Boys U 16 4000m Tadhg Manning was on top of his game when he challenged all the way to the finish line. Tadhg sprinted the last 100m and was well deserving of the third place medal.

In the Girls U 18 4000m, Jennifer Cotter also had a fantastic race. She worked really hard over a very cut up and hilly course but was well deserving of her third place finish. Jennifer was running up an age and she too is looking forward to her next competition.

In the boy’s U 18 6000m Sean O`Sullivan again had a superb race. Sean battled his way around the course and came storming home and was awarded the sixth place.

All the other athletes narrowly missed out on both individual medals and team medals but are looking very promising and are really looking forward to their next challenge next Sunday in the County uneven age.
