Historic days ahead for Kanturk GAA
KANTURK travel to Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday next for the Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship final of 2017 with Mallow providing the opposition with a 7.30pm start.
Kanturk have come through a season of promise, defeating Castlelyons in the opening round on 30th April and followed with victory over Charleville in round 2A on 20th August before confirming their superiority over their north Cork rivals three weeks later at Milford by 1-19 to 0-14.
The semi-final was played in Pairc Ui Rinn on 16th September and Kanturk were made to work hard for a 2-14 to 1-14 victory over Ballinhassig to qualify for the final.
Mallow, for their part, have defeated Courcey Rovers, Blarney, Valley Rovers and Cloyne on their way to the final, and banish the disappointments of losing at the semi-final stage in the past two years. While Mallow, who are championship favourites throughout the year, must be respected, finals don’t come around every year, and Kanturk will be hoping to take advantage of the opportunity that arises and make a determined bid for victory.
FOOTBALL:
Kanturk Intermediate footballers created their own bit of history by qualifying for their championship final by defeating Kildorrery in the semi final, played at Charleville on Saturday last 30th September.
Kanturk made the early running but were rocked by two Kildorrery goals in quick succession before recomposing themselves and from there to the finish Kanturk were always in command as they ran out winners on a 0-19 to 2-06 score line and qualify for a final meeting with Mitchestown later this month.
JUVENILE AFFAIRS:
