MILLSTREET GIRLS CELEBRATE FIRST COUNTY CAMOGIE TITLE

-

MILLSTREET Camogie celebrated a terrific victory over Blarney in the Co. Junior C Camogie Championship Final played in Ovens last Friday night. The full-time whistle led to scenes of uncontrolled joy for the most worthy of wins as Millstreet landed the silverware for the first time.

The contest produced excellent passages of action and the closeness of the exchanges kept the excitement at fever pitch throughout the second half.

After conceding an early goal, Millstreet controlled much of the opening half and a goal from Kate O’Keeffe grabbed a 1-11 to 1- 6 lead at the interval.

Opponents Blarney improved on the restart, the action swaying back and forth, Blarney goals matched by Alanna Barry and Aideen Buckley. Again Blarney goaled to edge ahead and as the tension mounted, so did the excitement as Millstreet mounted a comeback with Claire O’Keeffe netting a superb goal. The momentum was clearly with Millstreet now, late points from Kate O’Keeffe and Máire Ellen O’Connor rubberstamped victory.
