Competitions wrapping up

-

LAST Sunday saw another Muskerry championship reaching a conclusion when Inniscarra got the better of Éire Óg in an entertaining under 21 Hurling Championship final.

The Muskerry divisional Board can consequently fill satisfied with their progress as they had to overcome many obstacles particularly numerous replays. They have managed to ensure that every final was played before teams participated in the county championship arena and the only championship now to be concluded is the junior (c) football.

Returning to the last Sunday under 21 hurling championship final Inniscarra regained a title that they last held in 2009. They now have 17 titles to their credit and they are well ahead of all the other clubs in Muskerry in a competition that they always seem to make an impact. Last season Inniscarra participated in the new under 21 Premier hurling championship but this season they decided to drop back to participate in Muskerry. They were favourite to win the title from outset but their presence in the competition was a good thing as the other participants knew that they had to raise their standards and some very good games where enjoyed by patrons.

On Sunday last Éire Óg where well up for the fray and very little separated the sides over the hour. Inniscarra had a slight edge, however, and they scored first and subsequently managed to stay ahead until the final whistle. Hurling enthusiasts in the division will be very interested in the action that is down for the decision at Coachford on Sunday afternoon next. Ballincollig and Éire Óg will contest the intermediate hurling championship semi-final and these keen rivals from within the division should produce an entertaining hour’s play.

There are good players on both sides and players who are likely to be to the forefront for Ballincollig are Ciarán O’Sullivan, Liam Jennings, Cian Dorgan, David Bowen, Eoin Hegarty and Ian Coghan, while Eire Óg will look to John Cooper, Kevin Hallissey, Daniel Goulding, John Mullins, and Eoin O’Shea to figure prominently for them in their quest for a final place.
