JB FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSH­IP COUNTY PLAYOFF – Grange 1-7 Clyda Rovers 0-8: A week after winning the Avondhu Junior B2 Football championsh­ip Clyda bowed out of the county, with Grange winning by 1-7 to 0-8.

Clyda got off to a positive start with full forward Tim Buckley scoring a neat point in the opening minute. But Grange hit back strongly with 1-3 in succession before Adam Walsh got Clyda back in the game with a well taken free, 1-3 to 0-2. Grange then extended the lead before two Conor Crowley frees narrowed the gap to 1-5 to 0-4 at the break.

Driven on by the outstandin­g Gavin Carey, an improved Clyda were in the ascendancy in the third quarter. Adam Walsh and Conor Crowley (free) were again on target before Kyle Crowley kicked over an outstandin­g point, leaving Grange leading 1-5 to 0-7 with 10 minutes remaining. Grange then hit two great scores before a late Conor Crowley free again narrowed the gap. Clyda went in the hunt of a late goal, but it wasn’t to be as Grange held on for an impressive 1-7 to 0-8 victory.

And so the curtain was brought down on Clyda’s adult teams in the 2017 championsh­ip campaign. Credit must go to Junior B team manager Billy Mulcahy, coach Colie Lane and selectors Noel Walsh and Niall Cronin for all their hard work during the year.

Under-12 CONTINUE THEIR WINNING STREAK – Clyda Rovers under-12s won out the A grade football competitio­n, having gone through a very successful year. Clyda were paired against Buttevant in the final having defeated Kilshannig in the semi-final. Clyda and Buttevant traded scores in a highly entertaini­ng first half with Buttevant shading it at the short whistle. At half time the score was Clyda 0-4 to 0-6 for Buttevant.

The second half continued at a frantic pace with both teams wrestling for superiorty. Clyda scored two second half goals which proved the difference between the teams. Clyda outscored Buttevant adding two goals and four points in the second half with Buttevant only adding two points to thier first half tally, Clyda emerging winners by six points, on a scoreline of Clyda Rovers 2-08 to Buttevant 0-8. Clyda captain Richard Murray accepted the cup on behalf of the victorious Clyda team.
