County Camogie C crown for Millstreet

MILLSTREEET wrote their names into the history books on overcoming Blarney to capture a first time County Junior C Camogie Championship title following a thrilling hour’s action in Ovens last Friday night.
Both sides managed to produce an absorbing and hotly competitive contest which went right down to the wire. At the full time whistle, victory was well deserved for Millstreet even if it took a late onslaught to land telling scores.
Blarney grabbed a lead goal from Orla Cremin before Millstreet warmed to their task through the workrate of Lydia O’Reilly, Chloe Collins, Máire Ellen O’Connor, Claire and Kate O’Keeffe. Well struck points from Kate O’Keeffe and O’Connor confirmed Millstreet’s supremacy prior to a goal from O’Keeffe helped secure a 1-11 to 1-6 advantage at the break.
Blarney resumed a different side, goals from Megan and Jenifer Murphy forced parity. Indeed, the goals came thick and fast, a pair from Alanna Barry and Aideen Buckley to Millstreet were offset by strikes at the opposite end to Megan and Emma Murphy pushed Blarney ahead.
Now the game was in the melting pot and amidst tremendous excitement, Millstreet rallied magnificently for a Claire O’Keeffe goal. The momentum was clearly with Millstreet now, late points from Kate O’Keeffe and O’Connor rubberstamped victory.
