Where careers come to you

-

IRD Duhallow’s Youth & Education Working Group held their 14th annual careers day in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk for prospective students making the transition from secondary school to third level education.

This event was organised and co-ordinated in response to the overwhelming success of previous career exhibitions. Young people, their parents and teachers had the opportunity to gather information and facts before deciding on which career path to take.

Over 500 students and teachers from McEgan College Macroom, Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra Rathmore, Boherbue Comprehensive, Coláiste Treasa, Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk and St. Mary’s Secondary School, Charleville all attended. A wide range of exhibitors were able to ensure that young people acquired the relevant information to make informed decisions about third level education, training and employment options.

The following include some of those who exhibited:

Cork Institute of Technology, Athlone Institute of Technology, Clonakilty Agricultural College, Pallaskenry Agricultural College, Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, Roisín Kelleher Career Guidance, Tralee Institute of Technology, St, Johns College Cork, Limerick Institute of Technology, University College Cork, Shannon College of Hotel Management, Waterford Institute of Technology, University College Dublin, Harper Adams University England, and many more...

The first career exhibition held by IRD Duhallow was in October 2003 in response to a local need by rural based schools. It was felt that it is more difficult for students in rural areas to access information pertaining to career decisions, therefore this event has continuously met the needs of young people and their families as they face various decisions and choices in relation to their career, college or further training.
