Writer Marie checks in at book awards, with hopes for the future
CHARLEVILLE based writer Marie O’Halloran was honoured to attend the 11th annual Irish Book Awards, which took place earlier this month at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin.
Marie is originally from Mallow but has been living in Charleville for the last 17 years and is married to Jonathan O’Halloran of O’Halloran Building Solutions.
She was delighted to meet some of those writers that she admires, including Sinead Crowley, Mallow’s Stephanie Preissner, Maia Dunphy, Carmel Harrington and Sinead Moriarty, Catriona Perry, Dave Rudden, Peter Donnelly and Ryan Tubridy.
These among many more will be hoping to win the big award which will be announced at a gala event in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin on November 28.
Marie said she was a guest in the green room at last year’s event and was thrilled to meet personalities such as Alex Barclay, Paul O’Connell and Graham Norton.
Marie is currently in contract negotiations for her series of crime novels, which are set in a fictional Garda station in Dublin. “I hope to take home one of the Bord Gáis Irish Book Awards one day, but for now I’m delighted to attend as an invited guest,” she said.
Marie has also had her short stories and poetry published and is a professional member of the Irish Writers’ Centre.
She is also working on a collection of short stories, due out early next year.
