Dromtariffe and St. Johns seek silverware in novel JBFC Group 2 final
Meelin v Newmarket, Meelin 2pm THE prospect of a rousing contest is on the cards when neighbours St. Johns and Dromtariffe meet in a novel Duhallow Junior B Football Championship Group 2 Final at Newmarket 3-16 Newmarket 2-5 Cullen on Sunday.
Founded in 2010, St. John’s have endured previous losses in finals to Kiskeam, Freemount and Newmarket. If perseverance is to be rewarded, St. Johns would fall into the category after coming ever so close to landing county titles during 2017 only to falter narrowly to Lough Rovers and Cobh by narrow margins.
The solid play of Paddy O’Keeffe, Micheal Buckley, Conor Lane, Tim Lehane and the Barretts are central to St. Johns game. And after been involved in the latter end of four competitions, this is their last chance of silverware.
A well timed Dromtariffe run helped get the measure of Rockchapel to reach this decider, crucially Dromtariffe found the composure and grit to pull through a competitive tie. With a number of players expected to return, Dromtariffe may look to the experience of Diarmuid O’Sullivan, Pat Dennehy, Sam Murphy, Darren O’Connor, Gavin O’Keeffe and John O’Sullivan to count on potential superiority to move forward.
Precious little appears to be between the pair and it all points to a thrilling confrontation between two matched sides.
