New Scór season in Cork is up and running

THE Cork County Scór programme of activity for 2017/18 is up and running following a launch in the Pairc Uí Chaoimh.

GAA clubs promote Scór at adult and juvenile levels and it has helped to play an important role on the revival of the native culture and heritage. Both juveniles and adults in towns and villages countrywid­e have been afforded the opportunit­y to interact in the best of Irish culture.

County Scór Chairman Tony McAuliffe applauded the commitment of GAA clubs towards promoting cultural linked programme.

“The standard of competitio­n is very high at Munster and All Ireland levels, hopefully exciting competitio­n will emerge in the divisions across Cork and into the county series,” he said.

Competitio­ns commence within a parish and progress onto divisional/district level with the standard of fare ever improving onto county and provincial finals. Scór na nÓg is up and running, confined for participan­ts under 17, Scór na bPaistí geared for school children with Scór Sinsear catering for participan­ts over 17 years commences early in the new year.

During the past season, Cork clubs enjoyed terrific success at provincial level in Scór na nÓg to domimate a competitiv­e programme with outright success for Sam Maguires, Carbery Rangers, Tadhg MacCarthai­gh and Clann na nGael.

At domestic level, Carbery Rangers consistenc­y emerge popular winners of the Paddy Carroll Memorial Cup as Best Scór club in the county in a league competitio­n based on participat­ion and success at underage and adult level. For their consistenc­y in juvenile affairs, Boherbue secured the best overall club in Scór na nOg and Scór na bPaistí.

Officers elected at the helm for the new season are President, Denis ‘Sonny’ O’Driscoll (Tadgh McCarthaig­hs); Vice-President, Derry Gowen (Fermoy), Brendan Barry (Tracton); Barry Cogan (Carrigalin­e), Bill Harte (Carbery Rangers); Chairman, Tony McAulliffe (Lismire); Vice-Chairman Pat Malone (Éire Óg); Secretary, Margaret Whelan (St Catherines); Asst. Secretary, Maria O’Donovan (Iveleary); Treasurer Jerome Casey (Boherbue); Delegates to Munster Council: Jerry Doody (Millstreet), Margaret Whelan.

Divisional Scór na nÓg finals are currently in full swing with a feast of action promised right across the county before the Co. Final goes ahead in the Eire Og GAA Pavillion, Ovens on Saturday, December 2 at 4pm.
