On Sunday next, November 26, the annual Christmas Market takes place in the Pearse Memorial Hall from 2-5pm. A total of 26 different stall holders will display a wide range of goods, including baking, art, jewellery, toys, etc, with something to whet the appetite of all present.

There will also be mulled wine, tea and coffee plus cakes etc for those who wish to relax and chat.

Many valuable prizes will be on offer at the raffles plus Christmas music to give it that seasonal atmosphere.

Go along and enjoy a great afternoon, admission is free.

CHRISTMAS

Thursday, December 7 has been confirmed as the date for turning on the Christmas Tree lights at the Square. The tree will be in place very shortly, compliment­s of Ballydesmo­nd’s Sean Kelly to whom the committee are deeply indebted.

The starting time is 8.15pm (after the 7pm Vigil Mass) with the blessing of the crib by Fr Jim Kennelly, PP.

The lights on the houses, which were an additional feature last year, will be erected with some additions. More next week.

The local ICA Guild Christmas flower demonstrat­ion takes place on Monday, December 4. Everyone welcome.

Congratula­tions to Alan Lynch who has been elected a Cork Junior football selector for the coming year. Alan was manager of the local Junior A team that won the Duhallow League and Championsh­ip titles this year.

DRAMA

Buttevant Friary Players are currently in rehearsal for their forthcomin­g annual production and all concerned are putting the finishing touches to their scripts and also the production team are gearing-up for a very busy ‘tritium’ of magnificen­t performanc­es. This year the group has chosen another John B Keane epic which will have the audiences enthralled throughout. The offering this year is ‘The Year of the Hiker’ which has been performed throughout the world theatres.

The drama will be performed on three occasions in the Muintir na Tire Hall Buttevant and will take place on Thursday, November 30, and Friday, December 1, and will also be held on December 2. This drama groups performanc­es are always well supported and early booking is advisable. Admission tickets can be purchased at appointed local retail outlets.

FUNDING

Buttevant Community Council under the auspices of the town and Village Renewal Scheme for 2017 was recently awarded €100000 – by Cork County Council. The aim of the scheme is to support the revitalisa­tion of townsand villages to improve the living standards and working environmen­t of communitie­sand increase their potential to support increased economic activity going forward into the future.

The funds will be used to develop a river walk within the environs of the town and will also include a medieval heritage trail. Planning permission is eminent and officersfr­om Cork County Councils’ planning department and also from the council’s financial department have met with and are in constant and regular contact with the officers of Buttevant Community Council. Some ground-work has been done at the site of the developmen­t.

Buttevant Community Council has been heavily involved in the procuremen­t of this funding and the officers of the Community Council have spent long and arduous hours with applicatio­ns and other relevant details and are to be commended for their perseveran­ce and diligence which has paid dividends for the community and will be of benefit to the community and the immediate vicinity for long into the future.

Buttevant Community Council deserves to be supported in all its’ projects and activities. Major good news in reference to the developmen­t will be announced in the very near future.

BINGO

The weekly bingo session continues on Monday night several monetary prizes to be won. There is a bingo jackpot of around €4200-to be played for as well as an in-house-lottery and an extra sheet game. The session begins at 8.30 p.m. and early attendance is advisable.

DANCE SCHOOL

The Dorada school of dance has recommence­d their weelkly dance classes in the Muintir na Tire Hall Buttevant. Modern and hip-hop classes at also part of the weekly sessions. Tiny tot classes begin at midday; with intemediat­e classes at 12.30 p.m. and advance classes at 1.30 p.m.

All classes are in rehearsal for their annual PANTO ‘Robin Hood and his Merries’. The dance school recently held a dance exhibition to celebrate the Hallowe’en season in the local playground to rapturous applause. All enquiries to 087 2324143. Further details will be published in the near future.

CAHIRMEE SINGERS

The Cahirmee Singers choral group has resumed rehearsals on Wednesday nights in Buttevant Mercy Day Care Centre. The group is also in rehearsal for their annual concert/showcase due to be held this November 2017. New membersand interested persons will be warmly welcomed. BADMINTON

The Buttevant Badminton Club has resumed its weekly sessions in the GAA hall Buttevant on Tuesday nights for the 2017/2018 season. Events commence 8.30 p.m. and newcomers are welcome.

LOTTERY

Buttevant soccer club continues to promote its’ weekly local lottery the draw for which takes place on Thursday night at a local public venue. The winning of the lottery jackpot rests on the choice of four lucky numbers to match the four numbers drawn on draw night. The monetary jackpot now stands at €16400- and will continue to rise till won. Your continuing support is greatly appreciate­d.

WINTER

As the evenings begin to draw in and darkness falls earlier do exercise extreme caution and be mindful of pedestrian­s walking particular­ly childrenas they may be going-to and coming from school as dusk falls and daylight begins to fall. Also be aware of fallen leaves branches and in some cases trees which may cause undue hinderence to your travelling arrangemen­ts.

FUND-RAISER

The annual fundraisin­g Christmas Bazaar in aid of St John’s’ Church of Ireland Restoratio­n Fund will be held on this Sunday Novembar 26. The event will take place in Buttevant GAA hall at 3 p.m. with an admission fee of €3 and a complement­ary cup-oftea. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and a good crowd is anticipate­d.
