BRUCE MOLSKY AND BAND AT COUGHLAN’S LIVE
GRAMMY nominated US singer and multi-instrumentalist Bruce Molsky will play Coughlan’s Live on Douglas Street this coming Sunday evening with his new band The Mountain Drifters.
Widely regarded as one of America’s finest fiddle players, Molsky is equally comfortable playing banjo and guitar and has collaborated with a veritable ‘who’s who’ of world music including Anonymous 4, Mark Knopfler, Andy Irvine & Donal Lunny and Joan Osborne.
His latest collaboration sees Molsky playing with Allison de Groot and Stash Wyslouch (The Mountain Drifters), with the trio combining to produce a wonderful mix of bluegrass, country and roots music that has been charming audiences across the globe.

PADDY’S KIND OF COUNTRY IN MACROOM
COUNTRY music star Paddy O’Brien will bring his hugely popular ‘My Kind of Country’ concert tour to the Riverside Park Hotel in Macroom next tonight (Thursday).
Over a career spanning more than three decades Paddy O’Brien has become one of Ireland’s best-loved country music singers, regularly selling out venues the length and breadth of the country.
Fans can expect to hear a selection of Paddy’s greatest hits including ‘Marion’s Rose’, ‘Louisianna’, ‘Keep on the Sunnyside’, ‘Never Grow Old’ and many more besides.

LOAH SET TO BRING HER ‘ARTSOUL’ TO CYPRUS AVE
THE distinctive tones of singer/songwriter Sally Matu Garnett (aka Loah) will fill the intimate space of Cork’s Cyprus Avenue next Thursday evening.
The musician of Sierra Leonian/Irish origin, grew up exposed to an unusual mix of Maynooth and West Africa and while at Trinty College collaborated with the likes of Little Creen Cars, Kila, Niwel Tsumbu and the Trinity Orchestra’s Early Endeavours.
Combining her engaging mix of folk and soul, which she has christened ‘ArtSoul’, Loah has forged a successful solo career in addition to working alongside Kila and Niwel Tsumbu among others.

A TASTE OF PURE ROCK AT THE EVERYMAN PALACE
THE drummer with the late Rory Gallagher’s ground-breaking band Taste, John Wilson, will rekindle memories of the group’s powerful music at the Everyman Palace Theatre on Friday night.
John Wilson’s Taste, featuring Sam Davidson on lead guitar and Alan Niblock on bass, will take fans on a very personal homage to Gallagher in a concert that will feature tracks including ‘What’s Going On’, ‘Railway and Gun’ and ‘Same Old Story’.
The concert will also incorporate Wilson’s reflections on touring with Gallagher, the 1960’s, blues and rock and roll.

LANKUM LIVE AND UNLEASHED IN B/COLLIG
POPULAR Dublin four-piece Lankum will bring their eclectic sound to Cork on Saturday evening when they play ‘Upstairs’ at the White horse in Ballincollig.
Formerly known as Lynched, the band is a traditional folk group that combines distinctive vocals harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, whistles, concertina, accordion, fiddle and guitar.
The varied repertoire spans Dublin music-hall ditties and street songs, classic ballads from the Traveller tradition and traditional Irish and American dance tunes with their own highly original material.
Their live shows are always exciting affairs bordering on the anarchic with a rootsy and gutsy feel.

ELEANOR SHANLEY AT THE GLEN THEATRE
THE multi-award winning singer Eleanor Shanley will bring her live show to the stage of the Glen Theatre in Banteer on Saturday night.
Renowned for her unique interpretations of Irish and roots songs, Shanley started her career with De Danann, with whom she recorded two albums and toured the globe.
As a solo performers she has worked with artists including Ronnie Drew, Donal Lunny and U2 and recorded 14 albums.
Her Banteer gig will see Shanley perform tracks from her extensive back catalogue as well songs from her latest album ‘Forever Young’.

ECM WEEKEND RETURNS TO THE TRISKEL
THE third edition of the Triskel Christchurch Art Centre’s ECM Weekend, a series of concerts and films in collaboration with the German-founded label, will take place over the coming weekend.
The programme will kick off on Friday with a screening of Holozän, a film offering a fascinating insight into the life of celebrated Swiss playwright and novelist Max Frisch.
Saturday will see the venue host a lunchtime concert by Italian classical musicians and sisters Natascia (violin) and Raffaella (piano) Gazzana followed by an evening in the company of jazz greats Tim Berne and David Torn.
The Weekend will draw to a close on Sunday evening with a concert by acclaimed classical quartet Cyminology.

STEPHEN FOSTER’S SONGS AT THE ARTS THEATRE
THE Cork Arts Theatre will host a three-night run of ‘Beautiful Dreamer – The Story of Stephen Foster’ from this Friday.
Few will have heard of Foster’s name, despite the fact that he wrote some of the most famous songs in the history of US music including ‘Oh Susanna’, ‘Camptown Races’ and ‘Old Folks at Home (Swanee River)’.
Starring Dominic Moore as Foster and featuring Michelle O’Brien (mezzo-soprano), Denis Lane (baritone) and Noel Somers (tenor), the recalls Foster’s life and includes renditions of some of his best-loved songs.
The show is a wonderful tribute to the man dubbed “the most famous songwriter of the 19th century.”

WILD FRONT TO LIFT THE ROOF AT FRED ZEPPELIN’S
