All the fun of the Christmas fair in the grounds of Mallow Castle

- BILL BROWNE

SIZZLING seasonal treats, festive frolics and Christmas cheer will be the order of the day in the grounds of Mallow Castle with the return of the annual Christmas Family Food and Craft Fair.

Now in its fourth year, the free seasonal shindig will run from noon until 4pm with entertainment throughout the day in a specially erected marquee courtesy of Dave Skinner, Gearóid O’Callaghan, the Wandering Minstrels and choirs from local schools, with students from the Barratt School of Dance performing routines.

There will also be plenty for the kiddies with train rides, face painting and Santa going on walkabout around the grounds.

Since its inception the fair has grown to become one of the biggest of its kind in north Cork, offering visitors a welcome opportunity to pick up some seasonal gifts while enjoying some free entertainment.

As in previous years the main attraction on the day will be the outdoor market with plenty of locally based producers showcasing an impressive array of tasty treats to tickle the taste-buds.

Once again a number of local artisan producers including Hanley’s Puddings, Longueville House Cider and Apple Brandy and Bluebell Falls Cheese will be also be showcasing produce under the ‘ Taste Cork’ banner.

The market will also offer visitors an opportunity to make inroads into their Christmas shopping lists with stalls selling a wide range of gifts ranging from plants to toys to vintage signs and jewellery.

Local groups including the Mallow Chamber, the Scouts, Men’s Shed and Special Olympics will also have exhibits on display, with locals schools also selling seasonal products from their successful mini companies.

A raffle will be held with prizes donated by local businesses.

Any local business interested in donating prizes for the raffle or setting up a stall on the day is asked to contact the Mallow Development Partnership on 022 57638 to check if spaces are still available.
