North Cork books slots at Munster Scór finals
THE Munster Scór Na nÓg semi final produced highly entertaining fare on Sunday last at the Éire Óg GAA Pavilion, Ovens with county champions from Cork, Clare, Kerry and Wateford parading their cultural talents in the presence of a large and enthusiastic attendance.
In the GAA promoted programme, Cork teams carrying a strong representation from North Cork fared exceptionally well in the keen competition for a place in the provincial finals early next month.
Boherbue emerged to the fore in the Figure Dancing with an octet consisting of Lydia Sheehan, Sophie Dunstan, Margaret Casey, Áine O’Brien, Ailish O’Hanlon, Aoidhbe Ducey, Maeve Cremin and Maria Sheehan. Success continued for Boherbue in set dancing, with Margaret Casey, Megan Courtney, Sorcha Cronin, Rosie Daly, Anthony O’Connor, Tomás Sheehan, B J Dunstan and Alan O’Connor to the fore.
Kilshannig ticked the required boxes to advance at instrumental music with a selection of jigs and reels from Darragh O’Shea, Sheila Kavanagh, Aoife Turner, Mark O’Shea and Eoin Turner.
Maggie Moynihan from Cullen relished her qualification at solo singing as Shannon Buttimer of Sam Maguires emerged strongly in the demanding recitation category.
Cork’s successful innings continued for the harmonic Carbery Rangers ballad group and rounding off a rewarding outing for Cork was success for St. James club in the production class.
The triumphant Cork representatives go forward to the Munster Scór na nÓg Finals and a return to the Éire Óg GAA Pavilion, Ovens on Sunday, January 7 at 2pm sharp.
