AS part of the ‘Santa Stamps Appeal’, an initiative spearheaded by the Cork Simon Community, the children in junior infants to second class at Newmarket Boys National School wrote letters to Santa and posted them in the Santa Stamps envelopes on Tuesday, 5th December.

Postmistress Marion Murphy assured the boys that the letters would reach the North Pole in plenty of time for Christmas.

The Corkman has since been in contact with Santa headquarters in the North Pole where elven spokesperson Caitlín Ní Shíog confirmed that all the letters from Newmarket had been received in good time and were top of the heap for Santa’s urgent consideration.

While Caitlín wasn’t able to say if it will be possible to meet every request, she added that Santa was very impressed with the generous spirit in Newmarket and she was confident of a very favourable response.

“As the children have been so good this year Santa will definitely do his very best to help make sure their wishes come true,” said Caitlín before rushing off to deal with another flood of letters.

Money raised from the letters posted in Newmarket will go towards the provision of food and shelter for the homeless during Christmas and will help provide life changing services that people who are homeless depend on.

The Simon Community’s Santa Stamps Appeal has been running for the past 10 years, providing a fun and festive activity that recalls the true spirit of Christmas with the special envelopes ensuring hot food, shelter and kindness for people who are homeless in Cork
